Spotting Guide

Oh spots, we just love them don't we? NOT!! Well if you have spots or spills then we might be able to help you. First if you are one of our clients then you should have a bottle of professional carpet spotter that we left you when we cleaned your carpet. That product is safe to use on any spot and should take care of most of them. If it does not however, here are a few other suggestions. The spots are listed in alpahbetical order with some suggested removal techniques. First I will give you some general guidelines for all spots then you can scroll down and look for your spot in particular. General rules for removing spots and spills.

  1. For liquid spills soak up the the material as soon as possible after it gets on the carpet.
    For Solid or chunky spills, scrape up up the large pieces with a rubber spatula (so you don't damage the carpet fibers) and then soak up and liquid bits.
  2. Always blot the carpet DO NOT scrub or rub it, it could spread the spot and damage carpet fibers.
  3. Time is one of the most important factors in preventing a stain. Get to it right away if you can, If you can't at least throw a damp towel on it until you can get to it.
  4. Mix solutions in a spray bottle, have a plain water spray bottle to rinse with when you are done with any removal remedy.

Alcoholic Beverages

  1. Blot up as much as you can with a white rag or white paper towel.
  2. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of diswashing detergent with one quart of lukewarm water in a spray bottle.
  3. Spray a small amount of detergent solution on spill and blot with the a white towel or white paper towel, repeat until spot is gone.
  4. Rinse and blot dry.

Blood

  1. Blot up as much as possible with white paper towel or white rag.
  2. Spray with a small amount of regular household amonia, then blot agian.
  3. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of diswashing detergent with one quart of lukewarm water in a spray bottle.
  4. Spray a small amount of detergent solution on spill and blot with the a white towel or white paper towel, repeat until spot is gone.
  5. Rinse and blot dry.

Candle Wax

  1. Scrape off as much as possible using a rubber spatula or the back side of a butter knife.
  2. Place a piece of paper bag over the wax.
  3. Put an old rag over the paper bag, use an old rag becase it might get melted wax on it.
  4. Use an iron on low and go over the rag repeatedley. this will cause the wax to melt and get absorbed into the paper bag.
